Empowering Communities to Improve Access to Clean Water
Access to clean and safe water is a fundamental human right yet many communities across Uganda continue to face water scarcity and unsafe sources. Through Participatory Action Research (PAR) project, implemented by AIDS Education Group for Youth (AEGY Uganda) in partnership with Twaweza East Africa, communities are now actively leading the change they want to see.
Informed by citizen voices and grassroots engagement, the project has facilitated the construction of new boreholes in water-stressed areas. These efforts are a direct result of community-led data collection, dialogue, and advocacy — proving that when citizens are meaningfully involved, real solutions follow.

The installation of these boreholes is already transforming lives by:
- Reducing long distances traveled for water
- Preventing waterborne diseases
- Increasing time for productive activities, especially for women and girls

This achievement is a strong testament to the power of citizen agency and government responsiveness in delivering essential services. It also reinforces the importance of WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) as a key pillar for health, dignity, and development.
