6,000 Girls in Kamuli Pregnant after first COVID 19 lockdown.

During the first lock down due to COVOD 19 it was realized that out of the 112,954 pupils in primary schools 6,000 teenage pregnancies were registered during the first lock down last year. The girl child has been affected more than any other in the vulnerable category. Many of the children by the time schools opened many had failed to report back including boys, girls and even the teachers. Others reported has been the increasing cases of domestic violence and poverty with in the community. AIDS Education Group for Youth (AEGY) has been supporting 50 girls in Primary and 32 in apprentice but these could not continue due to budget cut down affected by COVID 19.

AEGY is had been teaching boys and girls in making useable sanitary pads and encouraging boys to be supporting. In addition to peer to peer counselling and psychosocial support they need to be talked to but with COVID19 not easy to reach them.

But we continue with weekly radio talk shows to reach out to these vulnerable girls in community.

AEGY seeks to integrate the views and opinions of staff in developing her HR policy.

Success Story of EYE Universal SRHR Project

The EYE Universal SRHR (Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights) project has been a transformative force in empowering young girls and women, enabling them to make informed decisions about their bodies and their futures. Through comprehensive, adolescent-friendly SRHR services and information, we are addressing the unique challenges faced by young people, particularly girls and boys aged 10-24, in taking control of their health and well-being.

This success story report highlights the incredible strides made through the project, including life-changing outcomes in health, education, and economic empowerment. From equipping youth with vital skills through cottage industries to fostering financial independence via the Youth Savings and Loan Associations (YSLA), the impact has been profound. Young people have not only gained the knowledge to safeguard their rights but have also been empowered to start businesses, build savings, and thrive in their communities.

We are proud to share these achievements and the stories of the resilient youth who are shaping their futures with the tools and support they deserve.

CASCADE SUCCESS STORY REPORTĀ

The Catalyzing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience Project (CASCADE) is a multi-country initiative aimed at improving food security and reducing malnutrition across several African nations, including Uganda. In Uganda, the CASCADE project is being implemented by a consortium of partners: CARE International, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, Food Rights Alliance, Africa Innovation Institute, and Kyambogo University.

Launched in July 2022 with funding from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the project has a clear vision of improving access to healthy diets and building resilience to economic and climate-related shocks. The overall goal is to enhance food security and reduce malnutrition among 1 million women of reproductive age and children under five years by 2026. The specific objectives of the project are:

  1. To increase access to and consumption of healthy diets among household members, particularly women of reproductive age and children under five.
  2. To increase resilience to economic and climate change-related shocks and stresses among household members, particularly women of reproductive age and children under five.

In Uganda, the project is being implemented in five sub-regions, namely Acholi, Tooro, Karamoja, Lango, and Busoga, where malnutrition rates are highest. In particular, the project targets Kamuli District, where it runs across eleven sub-counties: Kisozi, Mbulamuti, Butansi, Namasagali, Kagumba, Wankole, Nabwigulu, Kitayunjwa, Bulopa, Bugulumbya, and Magogo in the Busoga region.

This success story highlights the achievements of the project in Kamuli , focusing on the progress made in improving food security, enhancing resilience, and contributing to healthier diets for vulnerable communities, particularly women and children from July 2024 to February 2025.
